Great Expectations

High-flying, career-driven women in power suits eat their lunches en route to catching a meeting on the 28th floor. Power naps are done in between fiddling with their notebooks in cross-atlantic flights. Lazy Sunday-lounging is unheard of. So is F.R.I.E.N.D.S marathon alongside a 16-inch pizza drowned down with ice-cold Coke.

Growing up getting good grades and winning student council elections make people "make" you. With such so-called promising "symptoms".. they begin to form ideas in their minds on how you SHOULD turn out to be. Then before long, they are convinced on what you are (will be) & where you are (will be) going in a few years. And sadly/thankfully, you begin to conform and soon, you are that. And you're okay with it because anything else seems lesser.

You should be warned though that light does seep in at certain times. You see yourself in your world. What you are and how you were made. This juxtaposed to who, at your most honest moments, you really are. It's sad when they're more different than you initially thought.

Then again, as long as you don't lose your reason for doing what you do and being what people expect you to be, you see yourself through. Somehow.

just dropping by sis =) haaay, i can relate to what you've written..that's why, right now, i guess i'm disappointing a lot of people because i chose to be an artist (yeah, i literally starved a few months back--the pay just can't pay all the bills, ahahah) but really..i like what i do,and i think that's what really matters anyway. if one continues to measure up to other people's expectations and just be what they want him to be, sooner or later, one realizes that he lives an ironically empty life.

i don't want that.

by the end of the day, i want to be able to honestly tell myself that this is one full day lived.

=)
